About META options GEX

Meta Platforms, the parent of Facebook and Instagram, reports results every quarter, and its option positioning can shift around each release. The stock has made sizeable moves after some past reports, and short-dated options opened ahead of a release can concentrate gamma at a few strikes. Contracts are American-style, deliver shares on exercise, and expire weekly as well as on the monthly third-Friday cycle.

All META expirations are aggregated into one gamma exposure profile showing the gamma flip, the long-gamma P1 and P2 strikes, the short-gamma N1 and N2 strikes and the max pain level.

Think of the profile in two phases. Before a report, it describes event positioning: much of the gamma can sit in contracts that will be closed or expire within days of the result. After the report, that layer peels away and a new profile forms around the post-gap price. The 30-day heatmap captures the handover, so compare the rows before the release with those after it to see which strikes survived. A peak that stayed bright through the report reflects longer-dated positioning and is usually the sturdier level. Then check where the gap left price relative to the new flip: in negative gamma the move can extend, while in positive gamma it more often stalls.

Levels use end-of-day open interest in the newest available report and are released after the US close; intraday changes appear in the next snapshot.

FAQ

What type of options does META have?

Meta Platforms options are American-style equity options. They can be exercised before expiration, and exercise is settled by delivering Meta shares rather than cash.

How do earnings change META's gamma levels?

If a large share of open interest was opened for the event, those contracts tend to be closed or to expire shortly after the release. The strikes they held up then lose weight, and the following snapshots show positioning rebuilding around the new price.

What should I check first after a META earnings gap?

Check which side of the new gamma flip the stock landed on. Above it, dealer hedging tends to slow further moves; below it, hedging can add to them, so the same gap can lead to very different follow-through.

How often does the META page update?

Daily on US trading days. When the market has closed, it publishes levels built from end-of-day open interest in the latest available report across every listed META expiration.

Levels are derived from end-of-period options open interest and are published once a day. Educational information, not investment advice.
